Board Games Reviews

DISTILLED

When my husband and I first heard about this boardgame, we couldn’t wait to get our hands on it! When we found it at our local boardgame store, there was no leaving without it! So what did we think of it?

What we liked: Turns are fast. And a few turn actions you can do at the same time as everyone else. Very thematic. It really captures the theme and make you think you are really operating a distillery. TONS of replayability, and many character options to try out! Super easy to learn. Game provided a great tutorial session and the rules were simple to learn. The box organization and components were spectacular. No bags needed and great storage provided. Lastly, visually stunning. The artwork is beautiful. Reminiscent of Uwe Rosenberg games(Agricola).

What we didn’t like: I wish the flavour cards for aged liquors affected the value of your batch. Having no consequence for a bandaid flavoured liquor felt odd to us.

What we would like to see: More game components geared towards the business aspect(advertising, building expansions, etc.)

Buy? Gift? Recommend? Yes! Yes! Yes!

Final thoughts: Hard to criticize anything about this game. It was everything it advertised and more. Can’t wait to bring it out to the game table for years to come! Bonus points for a dog that looks like Beau on my gameboard!

UNDAUNTED

Undaunted has been on our ‘To be Played’ pile for a short while now, and when we were hit with the mother of all winter storms this weekend, we thought what better time than now to finally unbox it!

Undaunted is a 2 player WWll battlefield deck building game. Imagine if Dominion and Battlecry had a child, it would be this beautiful boardgame.

What we Liked: Super easy setup! It took the same amount of time to crack open a bottle of wine and pour a glass and set up the game. We loved how each card had a character name, which adds to the theme and immersion experience. There are TONS of scenarios which adds to the replayability, and we loved that it came with a campaign. The game length was nice and quick considering it’s a war game…looking at you Axis and Allies!

What We Didn’t Like: The combat being entirely dice driven. However, they do try to mitigate that with ways to use the odds in your favour!

Buy? Gift? Recommended? Yes to all 3! The rules are so easy to follow, and the set up is quick and simple. This game would appeal to seasoned boardgamers, as well as beginners looking to dip into something new!

Undaunted is definitely worth picking up! It’s price point is perfect for the value of game you are getting, and with lots of expansions it’s sure to stay on your gaming table for many gaming sessions to come!
